This pregnancy didn't offer up any especially unique cravings (like pickles with ice cream for example), however Italian food took on even more of a shine than it had in normal pre-pregnancy life. This meant that after returning from the first trimester travelling around the Middle East, Sri Lanka (where eating anything but ginger nut biscuits and crackers carted over in our suitcase was almost impossible), the Maldives and Thailand (far better than Sri Lanka for food), pasta with pesto and cheese became a daily requirement for about 2 solid months. After that it was downgraded to a couple of times a week, thankfully for my arteries.
This meant that the obvious choice for our babymoon was a Pasta Odyssey in Italy. We decided to spend a week between Venice and Florence, and spent the time wandering around soaking up the atmosphere and taking photos whilst walking was still physically possible, and enjoying exceptional Italian food at every single meal.
We even took a cooking class where we learned to make pasta, ravioli and gnocchi, which led to buying all the paraphernalia to continue at home - every guest we've had since that trip has been subjected to homemade pasta experiments, and will continue to be so forevermore.
We decided to skip a gondola ride this time (musing that it would be fun to take a baby on), but did hop in a water taxi to the airport at the end. We felt that Stewie might subconsciously appreciate all the good food and fun boat rides from inside, as a preview of what would be on offer in later years. We'll surely return some day and remember all the fun we had with him.
