Creating local environmental champions at Bore Place

Created by Charlotte one year ago

On 3rd July 2021, Stewie's parents finally got married at the stunning Bore Place in Kent, a 500-acre regeneratively managed historic estate with a focus is on organic farming and regenerative land management whilst supporting people to live happy, fulfilling, and sustainable lives.

Amongst other things, Bore Place runs school programmes, public events and workshops, and we always knew that Stewie would visit multiple times.

In 2023 we were contacted about fundraising for a schools project at Bore Place, You are Nature, and made a donation in Stewie's name as we wanted to support the project as part of his legacy. Whilst we wouldn't have lived close enough for Stewie to be an environmental champion at Bore Place, he would have grown up immersed in nature and with the ethos of this project present every day.

"Thank you for being an environmental fundraising hero! We promise that your donation will inspire 540 environmental champions from 6 local schools to be fearless, learn more about their natural environment and take positive action. A heartfelt thank you from all of us at Bore Place, thank you."

Creating local environmental champions at Bore Place

Bore Place partnered with Big Give Green Match Fund to deliver a new programme, You are Nature, to create 540 young inspirational environmental champions from 6 local primary schools in Ide Hill, Edenbridge, Four Elms, Chiddingstone, Hever and Weald.

Children will visit Bore Place 12 times throughout the year 4-6, and will connect with nature, soak up the multiple benefits of being outdoors, learn how to care for and be responsible for the planet, whilst physical exercise and healthy eating will also be an important part of the experience.

Climate change, declining species, food security & mental health issues all need action NOW. It is key that our children have a greater understanding and passion to find the solutions for today and the future. However, there is a disconnect between children and the natural world:
- Higher % children live in urban areas
- Less time is spent outdoors, with reduced freedom to explore and time spent on screens
- Pressure for high attainment and less time and budget for trips

The programme will conclude with a family celebration day, the young environmental champions will guide, facilitate and share their new ideas and knowledge with their friends, carers, parents, grandparents and communities – their campaigning will be a catalyst for change.
